Steinwall Inc. began operating three recently purchased Van Dorn injection molding presses during July and launched an e-newsletter to market its services.
The Coon Rapids, Minn., firm acquired a used, 500-ton unit with a 60-ounce shot size and two other used machines with 230 and 85 tons of clamping force. Now, Steinwall operates 23 presses of 28-500 tons.
``Business is picking up for Steinwall Inc. in both new mold orders and increases on present molds,'' said Maureen Steinwall, owner and president, via e-mail.
``I think the economy has finally used up the inventory pipeline,'' she added
Steinwall used e-mail marketing software to distribute an inaugural e-newsletter, ``The Steinwall Press.''
``We're trying something new that will keep us connected to important folks and yet cost little to do,'' she said.
The firm employs 70 in injection molding, mold making and process engineering, occupies 68,000 square feet and recorded sales of $6.8 million for the fiscal year ended Oct. 31.
Maureen Steinwall continues to own and operate the creative aspects of the Orient Me! electronic employee training and retention program.
An outreach program of the Washington-based Society of the Plastics Industry Inc.'s adopted the program in 1998 for work-force development.
In November, Training magazine recognized Orient Me! With a 2001 Mover-and-Shaker Award.
``It's not too often that a plastic molder gets noticed by the training industry,'' she said.
