Entek offers extruder for medical industry
Entek Extruders introduced a new extruder for the medical industry at the Society of Plastics Engineers' Annual Technical Conference, held in recently in San Francisco.
The E-Max 27-millimeter, twin-screw extruder sports a modular design that requires only one power connection. The heating and cooling systems, as well as the Allen-Bradley programmable-logic controller, are mounted under the extruder in water- and dust-resistant enclosures.
Like larger E-Max models, the 27mm extruder features an alternating-current, vector drive system. The controller is equipped with optional Ethernet connection for remote monitoring and troubleshooting.
Entek Extruders, a division of Entek Manufacturing Inc., is in Lebanon, Ore.

France's Guerin touts compounding system
French equipment supplier Guerin Systems, which is owned by Groupe Sidel, is marketing a turnkey system to compound PVC and other plastics.
Guerin designs the automated powder-handling system to customer requirements. The company is targeting firms that do in-house compounding, such as makers of PVC pipe and window profiles, or dry blending.
All ingredients are weighed. A microdosing station allows small amounts of liquids or solids to be added to each batch, with an accuracy level of 5 grams. Ingredients are mixed after weighing.
Guerin's U.S. headquarters is at Sidel Inc. in Norcross, Ga.

Conversion kit aims to up extruder output
Davis-Standard Corp. said its Internal Diameter Increase conversion kit is a retrofit package for boosting extruder output with relatively little downtime and expense.
IDI allows the extruder barrel, feed section, screw and breaker plates to be replaced by larger-diameter versions.
The kit is suitable for extruders with screw diameters of 21/2 inches, 31/2 inches, 41/2 inches and 6 inches.
Since the barrel diameter is increased, a comparable increase of length-to-diameter ratio also is required.
Technicians from the Pawcatuck, Conn., machinery maker perform the retrofits at the customer's plant.

Bosch claims motors improve accuracy
Designed for injection molding machines, Bosch Rexroth Corp.'s MBT series of high-torque electric motors features direct-drive technology that eliminates mechanical drivetrain elements.
The MBT can simplify the design of injection presses. It also improves accuracy and dynamic response, according to the company.
Synchronous, frameless motors produce torque of as much as 3,820 foot-pounds at speeds of 100-750 revolutions per minute.
According to the company in Hoffman Estates, Ill., the motor exhibits very low ``torque ripple'' - making it well-suited for plastics injection molding machines, robots, rotary tables and woodworking equipment.
