AgrTopWave LLC of Butler, Pa., has brought bottle thickness inspection inside the blow molding machine with its PETWallplus system.
The noncontact device monitors wall thickness and material distribution of monolayer PET containers as they are formed.
A blow molding machine can monitor every container for deviations in material distribution and random, distribution-related defects, and identify changes and processing problems.
PETWallplus employs a technology that uses infrared light absorption to determine the wall thickness of up to four targeted zones on a PET container, regardless of color, shape, decoration or the presence of water vapor. Versions are available for the most common machine brands, including the Krones Contiform, SIG Blowmax and Sidel Series I and II.
The system can provide production-run summaries, show real-time trends and check 32,000 bottles an hour, the company said.
