An Asian distributor of fiberglass garden accessories has relaunched as a new North American company, Duracraft, and plans to expand its presence in this market.
The company was founded eight years ago by Nick Zeng, a fiberglass molder based in Beijing, China, under the name SinoCan Plastics Inc., said Duracraft General Manager John Fry at the National Hardware Show held Aug. 11-13 in Chicago. The company makes outdoor planters and statues from fiberglass, chemically bonded with a metallic finish.
The company decided to boost its North American operations to help the business grow on this continent, Fry said. The company changed its name in November and established a 30-person office and warehouse in Toronto, he said.
The company plans to open its second warehouse in Buffalo by early October, Fry said. The warehouse, which will be at least 3,000 square feet, is part of a strategy to distribute its products to hardware stores and garden centers in the United States, Fry said.
``Fiberglass is an emerging market in lawn and garden,'' Fry said.
