An underwater pelletizer from BKG Bruckmann & Kreyenborg Granuliertechnik GmbH is designed for glass-fiber-filled material.
According to BKG, the difficulty was not cutting the product, but the wear that happened during transportation and drying of the pellets. So the company invented a special centrifugal dryer, and developed new coating methods for the pelletizing system.
The pelletizer can handle 5,500 pounds of material an hour. The new system has proved reliable for polypropylene, polycarbonate and nylon with glass-fiber content of up to 50 percent, according to the company in Muenster, Germany.
