OMSO SpA, which makes machinery for dry-offset and screen printing in Reggio Emilia, Italy, developed a prototype that digitally prints graphics on compact discs.
OMSO has one of the machines at its recently opened U.S. headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla. Jacques Theuvenin, who has 12 years of experience in dry-offset printing machinery, was hired to be vice president and run the Florida facility, covering customers in the United States and Latin America.
The company's high-speed machines print on lids, cups, bottle caps, plastic paint cans, yogurt containers and other products.
While working at another firm, Theuvenin helped launch a group called the Print Quality Work Group, which led to the introduction of the eight-color printing presses in Europe and Latin America. The association helped train printers in dry-offset work to boost quality. He said he wants to start a similar group in the United States.
