Roller Equipment Manufacturing Co. of Grandview, Mo., has developed a new method for applying thermoplastic elastomers to rollers and cylinder-shaped products, such as hoses.
Traditionally, thermoset rubber has been used to cover rollers, belts, hoses, seals and pulleys, using several methods such as extruded strips, crosshead dies and calendered stock. A wrapping tape is applied before the part is cured in an autoclave.
But thermosets, once cured, cannot be recycled. TPE scrap can be recycled, and most TPEs do not require a separate curing step.
The Remco machine extrudes a ribbon of material that then is applied under pressure to the roll surface.
