Global PET packaging leader Amcor Ltd. has entered the fast-growing Spanish dairy-food market with a deal to supply Puleva SA of Granada, Spain, with PET bottle preforms for a range of new products.
The move makes Melbourne, Australia-based Amcor ``the first PET packaging producer to move into the Spanish dairy-products market,'' said Alberto Blasco, a business unit director in Toledo for Amcor PET Packaging Europe/Asia. ``Further launches will follow over the coming months.''
Amcor has installed a new injection press in Toledo to make preforms for the Puleva contract, and a company spokeswoman said it may add more machines.
In the first stage of the partnership, Amcor will provide PET preforms for 175-milliliter, white, single-serve containers for a yogurt drink, Puleva Calcio. The bottles will be blown, filled and capped on a newly installed Sidel Remy Combi system at the Puleva facility in Granada.
Puleva Calcio yogurt has a 25-day refrigerated shelf life when packaged in PET, according to Amcor.
