DARIEN, WIS. (Oct. 28, 9 a.m. EDT) — Plasticraft Corp. of Darien specializes in volume rotational molding, but also has found success in offering blow molding services.
“We define ourselves as manufacturers of hollow plastic parts,” said operations manager Matt Bushman.
Plasticraft opened as a custom rotomolder in 1990 and, to meet a customer requirement, added blow molding in 1995. The option appeals to certain customers, and through the years they have increased blow molding requests, Bushman said.
About 15 percent of Plasticraft jobs involve both processes. Often, Plasticraft molds larger parts and, incorporating multiple components, provides complete assembly and pack out. Some customers may have Plasti-craft rotomold prototypes, measure market appeal and transition to blow molding for higher volumes.
Plasticraft operates nine Ferry independent-arm carousel machines, each with four arms, and five Milacron blow molding machines with head-shot capacities of 8-35 pounds.
The firm's principal end markets include toys, materials-handling pallets and skids, and recreational and sporting goods. Plasticraft employs about 135 and had estimated sales of $13 million for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
