Coltene/Whaledent Inc., which designs and manufactures dental products, is getting settled after moving its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Akron.
The new, 190,000-square-foot facility, replacing one in Mahwah, N.J., will house nine injection presses with clamping forces of 5-390 tons and will employ 190, said President and Chief Executive Officer Jerry F. Sullivan. The plant is to expand employment to 260 within 18 months.
Sullivan said the firm relocated to the $10 million facility because of its proximity to an existing plant in Tallmadge, Ohio, which is merging into the new site. Also, the city is paying for improvements to the 15- to 20-acre site and for equipment installation.
Sullivan said the plant should be at full capacity by July 31.
``It's hard to stand on one foot; we're very anxious to get going at this point,'' he said.
Sullivan said Mahwah employees have been offered positions in Akron.
