CHICAGO (Jan. 20, 9 a.m. EST) — NPE 2003 exhibitors will be encouraged to recycle plastics scrap generated at the show, which is scheduled for June 23-27 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
The Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., the show's organizer, again has selected Maine Plastics Inc. of North Chicago, Ill., as the official show recycler. The company, a reprocessor and distributor of secondary resins, will team up with Eco Educators of Columbus, Ohio, to collect scrap from exhibitors.
The project is a substantial undertaking. At the 2000 show, Maine Plastics collected about 379,000 pounds of plastic from 94 of the 2,014 exhibitors. Altogether, exhibitors diverted about 800,000 pounds from landfills - that includes material given away, pre-sold and returned to the parent companies.
“We are hoping to involve 100 percent of the exhibitors who generate scrap and increase the percentage of materials collected and recycled at NPE 2003,'” Maine Plastics President Robert Render said in a news release.
Information on the NPE recycling program will be available Jan. 22-23 at the NPE 2003 Exhibitor Seminar or by e-mailing [email protected]
