Unlike in previous years, the ninth Brasilplast trade show in Sao Paulo lasted five days rather than six. The change was meant to emphasize the business side of the show, said Evaristo Nascimento, general director of the trade show.
``Brasilplast always used to start on a Monday and end on the next Saturday. But we noticed that attendance on Saturdays had become much more a program for people not directly related to the sector - such as university students - than to plastics business leaders. So we decided to eliminate Saturday from the agenda.''
Brasilplast 2003 brought together 1,205 exhibitors in the 800,000-square-foot Anhembi exhibition pavilion. Some 48,737 people visited the fair, down from 59,619 in 2001. The visitors included 1,592 foreigners from 48 countries. At the Bradesco bank agency inside Brasilplast 2003, 55 million reais (roughly US$16.3 million) in business deals were transacted.
The 2005 show promises to be larger, since a new pavilion currently under construction will be finished.
The Brasilplast trade show is organized by Alcantara Machado Feiras e Promoçoes of Sao Paulo.
