Nova Chemicals Corp. is offering a new specialty, tough polystyrene that it said is easier to process and more economical than ABS in the production of appliance components and housewares.
The FX550 material provides high-impact resistance, high gloss and environmental stress-crack resistance, the company said.
The resin has a high melt flow, is easy to color and does not require drying, according to Nova officials.
Initial applications include refrigerator shelves and office supplies, but the Pittsburgh resin company foresees applications ranging from vacuum cleaner housings to packaging for cosmetics and point-of-purchase displays.
