CoreTech Systems Co. of Hsin-chu City, Taiwan, has named EPS FloTek of Naperville, Ill., sole U.S. distributor of its Moldex3D simulation software for injection molding.
The software has been available in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Customers include U.S. firms that do business in those countries.
In the United States, EPS FloTek said U.S. carmakers and Tier 1 suppliers are beta-testing the latest version, called 3D/6.0.
Moldex3D uses a technology called the high-performance finite volume method to track the flow front, a fast solving system and a special surface “prism element” to improve accuracy. By strategically placing layers of prism elements near the mold surface, where the velocity and thermal gradients are highest, the program finds the best trade-off between the number of elements and accuracy.
The software was developed with more than 1,200 benchmark projects, and a database of 5,500 materials.
The three-dimensional software is more realistic and accurate for thicker and bulkier parts, or parts with variable wall thicknesses. It shows the weld lines or warpage as they would happen during molding.
