McCormick Place, the home of NPE, Plastics USA and a variety of end-market trade shows popular in the plastics industry, is set to expand.
The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority said April 16 it has chosen Mc4West LLC to design and build the McCormick Place West expansion project.
The $850 million expansion, slated for completion by 2007, will include about 500,000 square feet of new exhibition space and 200,000 square feet of meeting space. The current facility, the nation's largest convention center, includes 2.2 million square feet of exhibit space and 360,000 square feet of meeting room space.
The expansion is expected to bring more than $80 million in new tax revenue and add $2.7 billion in economic activity, according to a survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which manages McCormick Place and Navy Pier.
Members of the Mc4West team also worked on the expansion of the south hall, a project that was delivered on schedule and under budget, MPEA said.
