A major client of Bill and Tom Heffern helped nudge the brothers into starting a new thermoforming concern during this unfriendly business environment.
Willander Plastics Corp. began operation last month out of a 5,000-square-foot facility in Los Alamitos.
General Manager Bill Heffern said the undisclosed client ``wanted more control'' of its products and urged the brothers, who each have 14 years experience in the industry, to go out on their own.
``The stars were kind of in alignment,'' said sales manager Tom Heffern. ``He wanted us to be our own company. He wanted us to be his arm.''
The six-employee firm currently operates one ZMD double-loader thermoforming machine, but Bill Heffern said the company plans to expand eventually.
``We like to think we're really good at helping people prototype and get their products to market,'' Bill Heffern said. ``That's what we're most proud of.''
