The Plastics Encounter trade show will partner in Charlotte, N.C., next spring with the Structural Plastics Division's conference and new-product design contest.
SPD, a unit of the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. in Washington, has agreed to stage its annual Structural Plastics Conference at the Charlotte Convention Center from March 21-23. Plastics Encounter Southeast, which is owned by Crain Communications Inc. and organized by Plastics News, runs March 23-25.
Additionally, SPD will extend the exposure for its design contest by displaying the entries in a large gallery on the Plastics Encounter show floor. The parts gallery will tie in with the design business conference planned for March 24 at the Encounter, according to Linda Whelan, director of trade shows and marketing for Plastics News and Plastics Encounter.
``The added critical mass resulting from this partnership will benefit all involved,'' Whelan said.
The Dulles, Va.-based Industrial Designers Society of America and Plastics News will co-present the design conference, as they did at the last Encounter, held in Indianapolis in September 2002.
Steve Trapp, SPD's 2003-04 chairman, explained that the Structural Plastics Conference draws attendees from a cross section of the plastics industry - mold makers, additive and resin suppliers, processors and their customers.
Trapp, vice president of sales and marketing for custom molder GI Plastek, said: ``Collocating these two events will raise the profile of the SPD's technical sessions and design contest, while providing access for our delegates to a plastics-specific regional trade show and additional strong conference programs.''
The Plastics Encounter Web site at www.plasticsencounters .com will provide more details as they become available on both the Charlotte event and the June 22-24 Plastics Encounter Midwest in Cleveland.
