Japanese injection press maker Toyo Machinery & Metal Co. Ltd. worked with a subsidiary of Axxicon Mould Technology BV to launch a disc machine to make optical discs, especially digital versatile discs, in cycle times under three seconds.
The Axxicon subsidiary, Future Technology Engineering, contributed expertise on DVD molds and processing.
The companies claim the new optical disc production unit is the world's first fully integrated, all-electric molding press and mold that is suitable for all formats.
Axxicon and Toyo said in early April that the machine is undergoing testing at selected customers.
Osaka, Japan-based Toyo, part of the Hitachi Group, employs 400 people.
