Krauss-Maffei Kunststofftechnik GmbH has developed a new system to control mold temperature during production of digital versatile discs, with cycle times under three seconds.
The company will introduce the system at Mediatech 2003, slated for May 13-15 in Las Vegas.
Two temperature circuits are precision-regulated, so the temperature at the cavity surface is higher during injection than during the cooling phase. The second cooling unit is the new feature.
The Munich company said mold-cavity temperature is very important. If the temperature is too low, the DVD will not meet quality criteria. Too-high temperatures mean the DVD takes longer to cool, stretching out cycle times.
