AKRON, OHIO (April 30, 12:20 p.m. EDT) — A new service will help visitors to NPE 2003 in Chicago this summer make better use of their time at that huge trade show, which will feature more than 1,500 exhibitors and 1 million square feet of exhibit space.
Plastics News is teaming with Kircher Interactive, the firm that developed the NPE Web site for show organizer the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., to create and operate about two dozen product locators throughout the McCormick Place complex during the June 23-27 event. Plans call for several kiosks of product-locator computer terminals to be positioned at high-traffic registration areas and hall entrances.
“NPE visitors will be able to search for an individual company or for all the exhibitors making a particular product, then create and print a personalized show planner on-site,” explained Ron Shinn, business development manager for Plastics News in Akron. “For the first time, a user who creates a show planner on the NPE.org or PlasticsNews.com Web sites before the show can recall, modify and then print out the customized itinerary from the show floor.”
The on-site printouts will include show-floor maps with the targeted exhibitor booths highlighted to help the user navigate McCormick Place efficiently, according to Jordan Morgenstern, SPI's vice president of trade shows. Morgenstern noted that NPE offered product locators in the early 1990s, but new technology will allow the terminals to become interactive extensions of the show's Web site.
Additionally, Plastics News and Washington-based Kircher are partnering on another NPE first — delivery of news headlines to NPE show-goers via electronic display screens in McCormick. The news terminals, to be mounted above the product-locator kiosks, will display headlines from Plastics News' show-daily newspapers and information about that day's events on the show floor. The same terminals also will display complete NPE conference and seminar information.
