MGC manual gauge control air ring; EGC external gauge control system for automatic film thickness control; and IGC internal gauge control system. All-digital, noncontact internal bubble cooling control system, with expansive bubble-size range.

American Kuhne Inc. (Booth N6139): Upgraded HP2 Steward barrier screw for enhanced output and lower melting temperature for high density polyethylene. Improved water-cooled extruder. New design eliminates uneven flow of water between the two halves of the heater. New Turbo-Cool high-performance air-cooled extruder. Upgraded motor, blower and ducting increases air flow so cooling effectiveness is nearly equal to that for water-cooled extruders. New low-cost, color, touch-screen extrusion control system.
American Leistritz Extruder Corp. (Booth N5544): New ZSE-50HP direct extrusion foam profile system with 150-horsepower motor and 52:1 length-to-diameter screw ratio. Features include loss-in-weight feeders, special barrel section for gas injection port, piston pump for gas feed system and quick-cooling downstream barrel sections. Introducing ZSE-18 twin-screw extruder, the first in its size range (18mm) with hammered and splined screw shafts to boost torque transmission by 40 percent. Powered by four 2½-kilowatt motors and unique gear-motor design. Demonstrating new personal-computer-based twin-screw control system. TSCS controls and monitors parameters with software that allows higher level of integration with information systems through Ethernet communications.
American Maplan Corp. (Booths S1602, S1802): Compact extrusion line for small profiles in a turnkey system that integrates line components and cuts costs. SS-75-30 single-screw extruder for optimal HDPE pipe and natural-fiber composites production. High-performance TS-135 twin-screw machine for long production runs. New dual spider die RD2-10 reduces pressure drop and allows more precise control at high output. New vacuum calibrator Type V 125 VA allows faster cooling and precise calibration with low maintenance.
Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering Co. Inc. (Booth S1602): Three-layer blown film line in operation. Line increases clarity and cuts costs by allowing use of linear low density PE instead of LDPE, and includes new Extrol control system. TSL sheet line designed specifically to extrude rigid plastic sheet for thermoforming applications. Tandem foam extrusion line including Opticell die for high quality and throughput. Enhanced haul-off for better processing of soft films by randomizing die, air ring or tower effects.
Berlyn Extruders Inc. (Booth N5709): New extrusion line. Vertical screw feeder for low bulk density materials. New screen changers.
Black Clawson Converting Machinery Inc. (Booth N4539) QFP modular equipment design expanded to include cast film and coating and laminating lines. Company claims modular systems reduce field wiring, installation time and cost.
Boston Matthews Inc. (Booth N4926): Compact extrusion line in operation with 1¼-inch AC Vector extruder, 8-foot cooling bath and combination puller/cutter for small-tube and profile production. New Auto-Winder for flexible tubing and profiles at up to 1,600 feet per minute. Munchy's K40 reprocessing machine for use with air or water cooling. Small size allows cost-effective recycling of certain materials.
Brampton Engineering Inc. (Booth N4749): New I-Flex system for three-layer blown film for lamination or conversion, featuring precise gauge control through I-Flex AutoGauge control lip. Output rates for AquaFrost multilayer, water-quenched blown film systems match cast film rates, but with more balanced orientation. Film can be thermoformed. AquaRing quickly cools downward-blown film for exceptional clarity, according to the company. North American debut showing of 4+1 Pancake Internal Bubble Cooling. Independent orifices deliver cool air into the bubble allowing precise control for sophisticated multilayer films based in resins with various melt strengths.
Breyer GmbH (Booth E10558): Extrusion line for thin polished films processes polycarbonate and acrylic without pre-drying. The third of three calendering rolls adjusts within 80 degrees for precise cooling. Also, line for high-speed coextrusion of cosmetic and other packaging tubing that runs up to 77½ feet per minute. And, extrusion line for multiwall sheet with complex cross section, featuring redesigned vacuum calibrator.
Bruckner Inc. (Booth E12713): Sequential film stretching lines with speeds up to 1,500 feet per minute. Multilayer film stretching lines with up to seven layers for enhanced properties. Simultaneous stretching lines for high-quality special films. Bruckner's Lisim technology, proven on PET and polypropylene lines, for high-quality film at up to 1,200 feet per minute, the company claims.

Canterbury Engineering Co. Inc. (Booth E12513): Special high-speed check valves.
Compuplast International Inc. (Booth E10748): North American debut of computer-aided-design software for extrusion dies, especially profile dies.
Davis-Standard Corp. (Booth N5107): WestJet AutoPro air ring with special forming cone for metallocene LLDPE. Vertical gear reducer on Thermatic extruder shortens machine and can have input shafts mounted above, below or on the side for processing flexibility. Gemini GC-61 conical, high-torque twin-screw extruder can start and run flood-fed and, because of low screw speed, can process high volumes with less screw and barrel wear. Davis-Standard's modified Gemini parallel, 94mm, twin-screw extruder fills gap between large conicals and small parallel extruders; 20:1 barrel featured for cost efficiency at extrusion rates of 550-850 pounds per hour. Also, coextrusion foam die and 94mm counter-rotating extruder, specially designed for high-output PE processing; AB-design coextrusion die made by foam extruder Sentinel Products. Groove feeders for advanced wire and cable and flexible PVC processing, and vertical extruders with modular design for positioning at any angle. A 310A automatic extrusion coating die for single or coextrusion. On display, 1.2-meter die made by Davis-Standard's plant in Erkrath, Germany. And, a compact gel detection system in a running, laboratory-size cast film line, featuring 5,000-pixel Eagle Gel Counter with charge-coupled camera for high-resolution imaging from Lasor/Systronics.
Diamond America (Booth N5675): New line of extruders, screws, barrels and strand and sheet dies; 1½-inch extruder with twin-lever quick-opening gate.
Draiswerke Inc. (Booth S1223): New designs for Gelimat thermokinetic mixing/compounding equipment. Process control technology allows new models to change multiple process parameters during 5- to 20-second cycles, and logs and graphically displays process parameters in real time.
Extrusion Dies Industries LLC (Booth N4561): Autoflex VI-L gauge profiling system with twice the responsiveness of previous Autoflex systems, allowing automated profiling for thin-sheet production; also doubles speed of flexible-lip adjustment so film and coating processors reach target gauge sooner and without operator intervention. Contour Die, a new die providing streamlined flow, short residence time, fast purges and rapid achievement of target gauge. The new UltraSplit system eliminates the need to take the die offline to split and clean it. UltraLip scraper traverses the width of a die in less than a minute to clear away buildup from the lips.
Ferry Industries Inc./Plas Mec srl (Booth N4068): North American debut of planetary extruder Model TPE from Plas Mec srl. Mainly used to make thermoplastic pellets from powders and to make powder coatings.
Future Design Inc. (Booth S3206): Laboratory-size, narrow-web blown film extrusion system, featuring new Saturn Genie automated air ring that records all air ring settings and has component position recall with digital control. Also, Saturn Titan HDPE air ring and Martignoni's IGBT Transistor technology for corona treaters.
German Technology Imports Inc. (Booth N4991): New Giga-34 twin-screw co-rotating compounder. At low speed, it acts as a laboratory extruder; at high speed, it processes pilot-plant-size batches of up to 800 pounds per hour. Uses 80 horsepower with maximum screw speed of 1,800 rpm.
Guill Tool & Engineering Co. Inc. (Booth N4381): Series 400 line of corrugating extrusion heads, engineered for more design flexibility, better durability and crush resistance.
Harrel Inc. (Booth N5715): RS-600 roll stack with automated sheet thickness control in machine and cross directions, plus individual control of each roll speed; WD-100A sheet winder. Also, Alternate Polymer tubing extrusion system that allows in-line switchovers to different material, in-line tubing dimension changes and production of bump tubing. And Tubetrol automated tubing system to control outer and inner diameters and length.
ICMA San Giorgio SpA (Booth N4684): MCM/25 HT co-rotating twin-screw extruder and laboratory-scale extruder.
D.R. Joseph Inc. (Booth N6022): Enhancements to the TS-IBCI internal bubble cooling control system, including new processor, color touch-screen controls, automatic blower balance, lay-flat controller and automatic cage controller.
Ludeca Inc. (Booth E10312): Simplified laser shaft and coupling alignment with Smartalign. Operator navigates with a joystick and two keys instead of memorizing a series of keystrokes. Compact design, upgradable through firm's Web site.
Lung Meng Machinery (USA) Inc. (Booth E9501): Five-layer blown film coextrusion line for food and flexible packaging. Single-layer extruder for making HDPE blown film. Bag-making and other types of packaging equipment.
Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. (Booth N5961): New Accupro automatic gauge control system for blown film dies. Gamma backscatter sensor ensures accurate film thickness measurement because it is insensitive to film composition, temperature and other variables. Also, improved version of D/OB dual-lip binary air ring for high output in blown film lines.
Maillefer SA (Booth N5579): Plastic pipe manufacturing systems, including cross-linked PE and PE/aluminum configurations. Multilayer pipe systems up to six layers with versatile MLH extrusion head.
NFM/Welding Engineers (Booth N5501): TEM series of co-rotating twin-screw extruders that are well-suited for wood/plastic composites, including those based on PVC, PE and PP and a range of hardwoods and softwoods. High torque-per-free-volume and no need to pre-dry or pre-mix materials. Lab-size 26mm version on display. Also, SPX single-screw extruders capable of processing wood/plastic composites and other compounds, in barrel sizes up to 10 inches. WE series of counter-rotating, nonintermeshing twin screws suited to low-shear compounding, reactive extrusion, devolatilization and recycling. And, Aries process control system, which NFM said can operate a complete line at lower cost than a DCS system. Can be swing-arm mounted.

Periplast Equipamentos Industriais Lda. (Booth E13537): Single- and twin-screw extruders for pipe, profiles, sheet and other products. Vacuum tanks and tables, take-offs, saws and related equipment. Pulverizers and pelletizers.
PTi Processing Technologies Inc. (BoothN7518): Trident Series Model 6000 vented extruder with 36:1 length-to-diameter ratio and equipped with a 50-horsepower direct-current drive; with new extended, skid-mouted base to support screen changer, gear pump and 65-inch-wide automatic die. New V-Series down-stack equipped with 78-inch-wide by 24-inch-diameter chrome rolls, equipped with Video-Gap, a new chrome roll nip monitoring system. Scheer-Bay Co. (Booth N7318): Upgraded A-Series strand pelletizers feature robust design, cost effectiveness and versatility, according to the company. Three new models available with alternating-current variable-frequency inverter. Toolless access to cutting area. Also, new P-Series pultrusion cutters for optimum cutting geometry with less power consumption. Lab and production models, cutting strands into 0.25- to 2-inch lengths. Strand velocity up to 160 feet per minute in some uses. And, SB 100 lab-size strand pelletizer with new durable design and featuring toolless access to cutting chamber, better strand control with larger, offset upper feed roll, easy-to-remove rotor.
Sino-Alloy Machinery Inc. (Booth N4396): Co-rotating twin-screw extruder that runs at 1,200 rpm, and auxiliary equipment. After NPE, Sino-Alloy plans a compounding demonstration at a factory in Sacramento, Calif.
SML Maschinengesellschaft mbH (Booth E9133): North American introduction of sleeve-touch technology, breathable-film lines, in-line lamination on breathable-film lines. Also, SML high-speed film winders.
Spirex Corp. (Booth S1045): Demonstration of Twinshot multimaterial molding process on an injection press.
Surface Engineering & Alloy Co. Inc. (Booth N7215): Extreme Coatings wear-resistant coatings for extruder feed screws. Most popular coating, XC1000, contains 88 percent tungsten carbide.
Terwin Instruments Inc. (Booth E12912): Launching 5000 series of melt-pressure transducers and transmitters with range of stem lengths, J or K integral thermocouples and pressure ranges from 500-30,000 pounds per square inch. Range of other extrusion instrumentation.
Wayne Machine & Die Co. (Booth N4439): Introducing Yellow Jacket counter-rotating conical twin-screw extruder to process powdered PVC, HDPE and other plastics. Designed for laboratory, research and small production runs. Barrel has three segments, including one for vacuum venting. Also, cast film system with 1¼-inch extruder and 12-inch cast film take-off system and torque winder. And, 0.625-inch silicone rubber extruder.
Westland Corp. (Booth N4733): To debut Eagle mixing nozzle, which uses dispersive and distributive mixing with little pressure drop and rapid conveying rate. Color mixes without high shear on the polymer melt. Suited to short color runs in injection molding. Also, Eagle mixing screw for high-efficiency mixing of color additives in extrusion, injection molding and blow molding. Maintains low shear and can reduce process temperature and cycle time.
Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corp. (Booth S1885): Varex three-layer blown film extrusion line in operation, with Optifil P-2 automatic die control and Multicool air ring. For first time at a U.S. show, new Multinip oscillating haul-off with Nostic.
Xaloy Inc. (Booth S1425): An improved barrier screw that should yield 20-35 percent more melting capacity and allows better pressure control and lower processing temperatures. Adjustable dam at end of the solids channel allows tuning the screw's pressure profile to individual polymers. Also, live demonstration of new Evolution injection molding/extrusion system for better melt and part quality, tighter control of shot size and potentially faster cycles. Features extruder with a fixed screw, a separate ram to inject polymer into the mold and shut-off nozzle to control flow and injection sequencing. System available as retrofit and as option for injection press builders.
