Maguire Products Inc. said its largest low-pressure dryer is aimed at users of large injection presses or medium-throughput blow molders or extruders.
The LPD 200 dryer is nearly 6 feet high. It can dry up to 200 pounds of material an hour. With double the capacity of the next-largest LPD dryer, the unit is only 10 inches taller and 4 inches wider.
Because of a simpler design, smaller batch size and shorter drying cycle, the LPD can be scaled up without the major increase in size and weight of blowers and other components that a dehumidifying dryer needs, according to the Aston, Pa., firm.
The low-pressure dryer technology also uses less energy than a standard dryer, Maguire said. Instead of heating the resin and flowing dry air over to slowly draw out moisture, the LPD uses vacuum to pull moisture from within the pellets. The LPD also carries heating and vacuum drying at the same time, in separate stations, turning a batch process into a continuous one that keeps pace with the throughput demands of a processing machine.
