Plastics executives looking to steer their firms through the choppy waters of the current economy might have a friend in Roger Jones.
Jones has put his 40 years of experience in the plastics and chemicals markets to use by writing Successful Management for the Plastics Industry, a guide published in late 2002 by CRC Press of Boca Raton, Fla. The book now is receiving a marketing push from the Society of Plastics Engineers, which sponsored its publication.
The book uses case studies to advise firms on how to deal with specific plastics industry issues that aren't addressed in general management books. Topics covered include company culture, technology, staffing, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures.
The book is the second for Jones, who is president of Franklin International LLC, a Broomall consulting firm. Jones owned and operated Franklin Polymers Inc., a Broomall-based resin distributor, for 11 years before selling the firm in 2000. Prior to that, he had spent more than 20 years in a variety of management positions with such firms as BASF Corp. and LNP Engineering Plastics Inc.
Successful Management for the Plastics Industry is available through a number of Web sites, including www.crcpress.com and www.4spe.org.
