Moreland Machinery Co. Inc., a manufacturers' representative that sells packaging equipment, has moved to a 130,000-square-foot former Huntsman Packaging facility in Birmingham.
President Bill Moreland said the company renovated the building and was scheduled to begin operations there in mid-March.
The building, which had been vacant about a year, is a lot bigger than Moreland Machinery's former operation in Lawrenceville, Ga., which measured just 15,000 square feet.
Moreland Machinery sells Kiefel blown film lines and other brands of flexible packaging, printing and converting machines, both new and used.
Bill Moreland said the Huntsman plant has some attractive features, especially a blown film tower. His company plans to install a customer test area.
Moreland, who has a background in the plastic film industry, started his representative firm in 1990.
He said the company is expanding despite the recession. Moreland Machinery has hired two sales people in the past year, bringing its total to five.
In one recent sale, Tara Plastics Inc. of Forest Park, Ga., bought a five-layer Kiefel blown film line.
