Custom extruder Pawling Corp. has spent nearly $1 million to purchase and set up a Davis-Standard sheet system.
The single-screw line primarily will be used to produce wall covering panels and custom sheet, according to a recent news release.
Robin Ringler, Pawling's business unit manager, said the firm hopes to shorten lead times to two or three weeks, from as much as six weeks.
The new plastics line, the ninth line in operation at the 50,000-square-foot operation, also will give Pawling better control of color matching for its wall coverings.
``By having our own line, we'll be able to make our own decision about what the minimum run will be and we won't have to go by what someone else says,'' Ringler said in a March 10 interview by telephone.
The system is designed to process 400-450 pounds of PVC each hour, but consistently has doubled that amount, the Pawling-based firm said.
The company serves the aerospace, automotive, building/construction, landscaping, mass-transit, medical/pharmaceutical, military and solar-energy markets.
