Applied Tech Products Inc. has restructured its operation and expanded the scope of its engineered plastics group to include rubber and silicone molding.
A.K. Rubber Products Co., a specialist in precision rubber molded products used in the medical-device industry and a producer of goods for the automotive market, has been added to the ATP Engineered Rubber & Plastics Group to make it one of a few firms offering rubber, silicone and plastics component expertise globally, according to group President Carlton Harris.
A.K. Rubber, which had been a stand-alone company in ATP's network since it was purchased in May 1999, joins three plastics products businesses - in Monticello, Iowa; West Berlin, N.J.; and Tempe, Ariz. - in the group, which also has plants in Mexico and China.
The group mainly serves the medical-device and pharmaceutical packaging markets, along with the electronics, consumer and industrial products industries.
The three plastics firms operate as ATP Engineered Rubber & Plastics, but A.K. Rubber will retain its name for the time being, according to Raymond B. Langton, ATP president and chief executive officer.
With A.K. Rubber in the fold, the group boasts 325,000 square feet of combined manufacturing space, a spokesman said. Its equipment includes more than 130 rubber and plastic molding presses, with capacities of 28-1,000 tons.
By moving the medical-product end of its business under one marketing umbrella, ``we can offer more than one technology to our customers and tighten our market focus,'' Langton said. Harris noted ``it is of significant benefit to customers whose products require precision integration of rubber and plastic molded components.''
ATP Engineered Rubber & Plastics also has installed a Class 100,000 clean room at the Tempe plastic injection molding facility to complement its Class 10,000 clean room for rubber molding at A.K. Rubber's 45,000-square-foot facility in Elkhorn, Wis., Harris said.
A national sales force, combining rubber and plastics sales expertise of the four individual companies, has been formed to represent the entire group, Langton said.
ATP is based in Radnor, Pa.
