ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (June 18, 10:40 a.m. EDT) — Surface Engineering & Alloy Co. Inc. (Booth N7215) has developed a new material that can rebuild worn feedscrews made of crucible particle metallurgy base material from Crucible Materials Corp.
Processors often discard a costly CPM feedscrew when the flights have worn below tolerance, because it has been difficult to rebuild them. Surface Engineering of St. Petersburg claims its XC1000 tungsten carbide can be used to rebuild CPM screws worn below finished dimensions by as much as 0.015 inch per side.
The tungsten carbide coating improves the feedscrew´s performance, according to Surface Engineering President Curt Kadau. The material is extremely wear-resistant and especially useful in processing abrasive materials, he said.
