CHICAGO (June 23, 9:20 a.m. EDT) — Bruckner Formtec GmbH (Booth E12713) is teaming up with Processing Technologies Inc. (Booth N7518) so that both firms can expand their product lines.
Bruckner Formtec specializes in thin-gauge packaging film systems with horizontal roll stacks. PTI's machinery makes sheet and film, with the thinnest film systems making gauges down to 0.008 inch compared with Bruckner Formtec's approximate 0.005 inch, according to PTI President Dana Hanson.
PTI's film and sheet systems have vertical roll stacks.
PTI also will gain from Bruckner Formtec's global reach. Most of PTI's sales are in North America, with some going to South America, Hanson said in a pre-NPE telephone interview from PTI's head office in Aurora, Ill.
PTI is a quick-to-react manufacturing company, which Hanson believes will dovetail well with Bruckner's engineering focus. Bruckner Formtec makes its roll stacks but contracts out manufacture of most of its other extrusion system components. PTI makes its own components, including the Trident series of extruders that might be used in some Bruckner Formtec systems.
“The structure of this agreement will be such that Bruckner Formtec will be responsible for marketing and selling PTI's products, along with our own products, into regions that are not presently covered by PTI, including but not limited to Asia and Eastern Europe,” noted Peter Lechner, managing director of Bruckner Formtec.
The agreement “will complete our product range,” Lechner said in a telephone interview. The two firms' products complement each other rather than overlap.
Bruckner Formtec's machinery typically makes a range of thin-gauge polypropylene, amorphous PET, crystalline PET and glycol-modified PET films. The business alliance with PTI gets it into heavier gauges and competition with firms such as Welex Inc. and Davis-Standard Corp. Bruckner Formtec systems carry a premium price because it is difficult to polish films at such thin gauges.
“Bruckner Formtec will open up opportunities for our products that would otherwise take a great deal of time and expense to cultivate and it will happen within a relatively short period of time,” noted Hanson. He also praised the reputation of his partner's service company, Bruckner ServTec GmbH.
Bruckner Formtec is a unit of Bruckner Maschinenbau GmbH of Siegsdorf, Germany, a company that specializes in thin, biaxially oriented film equipment. Hanson said he hopes that eventually PTI will expand its business alliance to include the parent company.
Bruckner Formtec, meanwhile, includes the Barmag division bought by parent Bruckner Maschinenbau GmbH in 1997 and merged with Formtec in 2001. Barmag makes large-diameter coextrusion systems and high-end sheet production equipment.
