Compounder, sheet extruder and foam maker British Vita plc is expanding its European sheet operations with the purchase of the extrusion division trade and assets of Crown General NV.
Crown General of Tessenderlo, Belgium, was operating two divisions, one extruding polypropylene and polyethylene sheet and the other producing PE film. But it decided to concentrate on the films business at the expense of the sheet extrusion plant, which closed.
Manchester-based British Vita is buying the Belgian company's customer base and its two extrusion lines, which will be transferred to existing Vita sheet production facilities in England and Germany.
``The acquisition will strengthen our existing European market position in polyolefin sheet and will provide opportunities for further growth,'' said Calvin O'Connor, Vita director of group industrial polymers.
One extrusion line is destined for the group's Metzeler Plastics GmbH sheet extrusion plant in Julich, Germany, which already has beefed up capacity, while the other line will go to its VTS Plastech facility in Widnes, England, according to a Vita spokeswoman. The switch will take place within the next three months.
The Crown General operation had been serving the materials-handling and horticultural markets.
British Vita already has sheet extrusion operations in Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Italy, Denmark and the United States.
