Crompton Corp. (Booth N5726) debuted several plastics additives for vinyls and other thermoplastics at NPE.
The firm's new Mark low-phenol series drastically lowers emissions of phenols and other volatile organic compounds, according to Scott Chambers, sales and marketing director for polymer additives. Based on barium/zinc or calcium/zinc, the product enables vinyl processors to make environmentally benign goods without sacrificing performance. The low-phenol additives are especially useful for automotive interior components and household products such as flooring and wall coverings.
A new Mark heat stabilizer eliminates chatter in high-speed vinyl profile extrusion, Chambers said in an interview at Crompton's booth. The organotin additive with a special lubricant package addresses a problem common among extruders wanting to push production lines to the limit.
Mark 2910 is a new, cost-effective liquid stabilizer/lubricant that eliminates the need for paraffin wax lubricants. Mark 2289 stabilizer was developed for window profiles destined for intense sunlight exposure where it protects against yellowing and chalking due to ultraviolet exposure and heat.
In antioxidants, the Middlebury, Conn., company debuted the Naugard 900 series, a patented blend that offers five times the oxidation protection than conventional products. Crompton claims the additive family provides long-term protection in harsh environments with low emissions and no blooming.
Crompton featured its recently acquired line of Interloy compatibilizers, which allow production of high-performance polypropylene compounds and alloys. Interloy 1085H1 improves compatibility with styrene ethylene butylene styrene copolymers for very-high-impact PP. Interloy W1095H1 improves PP gloss, weatherability and mar resistance, making it well-suited to outdoor and auto uses. It is effective in alloying PP with a range of engineering resins.
New vegetable-based slip agents address concerns about possible cross-contamination from tallow-based products. Kemamide ELO is a high-performance torque release agent that minimizes taste and odor effects of ozone sterilization in bottle caps and similar applications. Kemamide VO is a genetically modified organism-free, low-cost alternative to animal- and vegetable-based slip agents.
