CHICAGO (July 2, 3:35 p.m. EDT) — Tinius Olsen Testing Machine Co. Inc. brought more than its laboratory systems to Chicago. It also brought a new brand image.
Some of the company's machines had been sold in Europe under the name of its wholly owned Hounsfield Testing Equipment company in England, Wayne Hayward, marketing manager, said June 23 at NPE.
Since the start of this year, the company has used the Tinius Olsen name across its brands. Many customers had both Tinius Olsen and Hounsfield systems in their labs, yet had no idea they were coming from the same company.
The firm also has adopted a standard color scheme for its equipment, using a light cream color and green trim, so that laboratory users and operators will recognize Tinius Olsen equipment at a glance, Hayward said. In the past, the testing units had a variety of paint tints with no standard style.
“We're trying to get people to recognize us quickly,” Hayward said.
The firm is debuting a series of new testing equipment, which also should improve safety and use for operators.
The Model IT 503 impact tester now comes with interlocked safety shielding as well as an available automatic braking system and motorized pendulum return for increased safety, along with a pneumatic clamping system for better test repeatability.
A pneumatic purge device for the MP600 melt plastometer product line aids in reducing operator fatigue, automating both the purging and cleaning of the unit. That is an important feature for technicians who may run up to 50 tests per day, Hayward said.
