CHICAGO (Aug. 1, 5 p.m. EDT) — Dyneon LLC has expanded its line of fluoropolymer additives with two new processing aids.
Dynamar FX9614X and FX5922X are free-flowing, granular concentrates that help reduce cycle times, eliminate melt fracture, reduce extruder torque and improve die swell control, according to Dyneon, an Oakdale, Minn.-based business unit of 3M Corp.
The additives help reduce melt viscosity, giving processors the option of using high-strength resins that otherwise cannot be processed on standard equipment. Dyneon said the additives are available in smaller particle sizes than preceeding fluoropolymers for reduced usage rates and overall cost savings.
Next to the Dyneon booth at NPE, 3M featured its Scotch-Weld structural plastic adhesive DP8010. 3M claims the adhesive can replace screws, rivets and other fastening methods without special surface preparation, even with polymers with low surface energy such as polyolefins thermoplastic polyolefins. The solvent-free adhesive has room-temperature cure and high water resistance.
