Machinery maker SMS Plastics Technology has named Steffen Burghoff, who worked at Thyssen Krupp AG and a German fuel-cell maker, as its top executive.
Burghoff replaces Helmut Eschwey, who left SMS in June to become chairman of Heraeus Holding GmbH, a German precious metals and technology giant.
SMS makes Battenfeld injection molding machines, American Maplan and Cincinnati extruders and Battenfeld Gloucester film equipment.
Effective Sept. 1, the 35-year-old Burghoff became executive manager of SMS AG, the holding company of Meinerzhagen-based SMS Plastics Technology. He holds a degree in economics and business administration and has international experience in finance, controlling and management. Before joining SMS, he was chief financial officer of SFC AG, a company in Munich, Germany, that makes portable fuel cells.
He also has eight years of experience with German industrial conglomerate Thyssen Krupp AG, including 31/2 years as managing director of Shanghai Krupp Stainless.
Eschwey remains a member of the SMS advisory board.
