Kaiserman starts recycling, extruding
ROOSEVELT, N.Y. - Jeffrey Kaiserman has entered the extrusion market again. The plastics industry veteran now has two firms in Roosevelt, on Long Island: a recycling division named Plastic Source LLC, and fence profile extruder X-Trude LLC.
``We're selling every stick we're making,'' Kaiserman said in a Sept. 16 telephone interview. ``We hope to put more lines on the floor in the winter.''
He began production in June at the 30,000-square-foot site with four extrusion lines and about 25 employees. He said he hopes to add four lines.
Kaiserman and Bertram Sayer operated Quality Lineals Inc., a window profile extruder based in Freeport, N.Y., until about four years ago before selling it to an investment group. Kaiserman also ran fabricator North East Windows in Merrick, N.Y.
Uponor closing pipe plant in Hungary
VANTAA, FINLAND - Uponor Oyj will close a pipe manufacturing facility in Szekszard, Hungary, by the end of the year.
The Vantaa-based housing products manufacturer announced the move Sept. 16 as part of ongoing restructuring. It has manufactured polyethylene and PVC pipe at the location since 1992, serving the municipal sewer, gas and water markets.
Officials said the move will affect 45 employees, including those at a sales office in Budapest. Sales of infrastructure and environment systems in central Europe will be coordinated from Uponor's office in Prague, Czech Republic, and pipe will be extruded at existing sites in Germany. The closure will not affect Uponor's Housing Solutions unit in Budapest, Hungary.
For the first half of 2003, the firm reported sales of 496.2 million euros ($567.7 million), down 12.7 percent from the same period in 2002.
