Fred Weiss, founder and chairman of Plastic Packaging Corp., died Sept. 13 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Weiss was 84.
According to information from Plastic Packaging, Weiss was an innovator of injection molded packaging, starting his company in 1954 in Leominster, Mass., with 12 employees.
The company, now headquartered in West Springfield, Mass., is led by his daughter, President Susan Weiss Firestone.
He also is survived by his wife, Ruth, and another daughter, Debra Weiss Finkel.
Weiss was known for his religious faith, dedicating energy and time to the Jewish community for more than 60 years and making 18 missions to Israel. He served on the board of the American Red Cross for the local chapter in his region.
