- JSW Plastics Machinery Inc. has decided to reopen its Chicago-area technical center, and the supplier of injection molding machines has hired Bob Columbus, who sold Niigata presses for 17 years, to run it.
Columbus has the title of head of marketing and regional sales manager. He said the technical center is housed in the same leased building as before, in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
Officials from Tokyo-based Japan Steel Works Ltd. closed the regional facility in late 2002, citing the poor U.S. market. But at NPE 2003 in June, Fumio Hirayama, president of the U.S. unit, JSW Plastics Machinery, said the company was rethinking that move because the market is improving.
Columbus said JSW leases the building, which remained vacant after the company closed the technical center. He said the company hopes to have an open house by the end of the year.
Columbus was general manager at Niigata Machine Techno Co. Ltd. Most recently, he was business development manager.
JSW Plastics Machinery is based in Corona.
The company also has regional offices in Novi, Mich., and Marietta, Ga.
