Suzuki Manufacturing of America Corp. is adding in-house injection molding as part of an $8 million expansion of its Rome manufacturing facility.
The Rome-based firm plans to buy a large-tonnage press along with quick-mold-change and materials-handling systems for the plant, said director Phil Wofford during a Nov. 10 telephone interview. The press will have more than 2,000 tons of clamping force.
The Rome facility makes all-terrain vehicles for Suzuki and will continue working with outside suppliers for many of its plastics components, Wofford said.
The 22,500-square-foot expansion will include a fabrication shop. Suzuki will add about 20 employees.
