The Society of Plastics Engineers is moving ahead with its search for a new executive director, but the society does not expect to name a permanent replacement before Michael Cappelletti retires Dec. 31, an SPE official said.
Cappelletti announced in May that he would retire at year's end.
SPE President Donna Davis said the association in early December expects to post a job description on its Web site, 4spe.org, and also on a Web site viewed by association executives. The committee will accept applications and begin interviewing.
Davis said the committee in charge of the executive director search began by talking to SPE leaders, including members of the executive committee, then to the employees of the Brookfield-based society. The group developed criteria that includes skills needed to run SPE as it expands around the world, she added.
``We're a global organization,'' said Davis, who was interviewed by telephone Nov. 20 from Mumbai, India, where SPE's India Section was holding a conference on Plastics in Automobiles.
Susan Orderwald, the deputy executive director, will handle the top director's duties in early 2004 until SPE hires a replacement for Cappelletti, Davis said.
Cappelletti became executive director in 1995, after he was named interim director the year before. He joined SPE in 1984 as finance and administrative director.
