Finnish compounder and concentrate maker Premix Oy has opened a compounding plant in Milton.
The 25,000-square-foot, leased site - operating as Premix Thermoplastics Inc. - began production in September with three single-screw extrusion lines, according to technical manager Robbie Elford. The firm employs nine, but expects that number to increase to 40 by the end of 2005.
The site has annual production capacity of 5 million pounds and expects to post sales of $5 million in 2004. Production is focused on electrically conductive compounds based on a variety of resins including polypropylene and nylon, Elford said by phone Nov. 20. Additives used in Premix compounds include carbon black, carbon fibers and stainless-steel fibers, as well as inherently dissipative and conductive polymers.
The firm's compounds are sold into a range of markets including telecommunications, medical and aerospace. Based in Rajamaki, Finland, Premix had imported its compounds into North America.
Premix Oy and Premix Thermoplastics are not connected to Premix Inc., a thermoset resin compounder in North Kingsville, Ohio.
