Compounding extruder manufacturer Century Inc. has picked Eisenbeiss GmbH to provide the first multiscrew gearbox application for its special 12-screw extruder called the 3+, also called the RE.
The exotic machine uses up to 12 closely intermeshing co-rotating screws that revolve around a fixed core.
Bob Urtel, president and chief operating officer, said Century picked Eisenbeiss for its fast service and reliability as a gearbox producer.
The Traverse City, Mich-based Century first showed the 3+ extruder at NPE 2000. The machine was developed by Blach Verfahrenstechnik GmbH of Lauffen, Germany.
Eisenbeiss, based in Enns, Austria, specializes in high-performance gearboxes for the extrusion and steel industries, and is a leading supplier to makers of twin-screw extruders.
Century also has added a complete underwater pelletizer system at its test laboratory, which houses Century's CX twin-screw and 3+ extruder technologies. The underwater pelletizer is from Gala Industries Inc. of Eagle Rock, Va.
