PSI-Polymer Systems Inc. of Hickory, N.C., introduced a gear pump design, a temperature probe and a new seal and safety guarding on its screen changer.
The compact gear pump has a one-piece gear and shaft assembly design, made of through-hardened tool-steel gears, plus a pressure-balanced drive shaft. It operates at up to 5,000 pounds per square inch and 600° F.
The temperature probe extends 1½ inches into the melt stream, farther than competing probes. That allows an operator to record a complete temperature profile across an extrusion line.
On PSI's hydraulic slide-plate screen changer, a new seal employs a segmented taper ring. Melt pressure transmits force to seal as the segments try to move from the center.
