Welex Inc. said its Evolution sheet extrusion lines have leak-proof Victaulic fittings and direct-acting rigid roll gap stops with digital motorized adjustment for positive roll gap settings without deflection.
The lines can accept different-diameter rolls.
On Evolution take-offs, direct-acting linear bearings replace the swing arms that most competing designs use for roll movement. Roll closing pressures are continuously adjustable to virtually any desired pressure, thanks to a new accumulator-backed, air-over-oil loading system.
Also new from the Blue Bell, Pa., company is the Hercules industrial sheet line, specialized to cool thick, wide, commercial-grade sheet. Welex said thick sheet must be cooled very carefully to avoid distortion from differences in shrinkage of the colder surface layer and the hotter inner layers. The machine has large-diameter heated rolls followed by long cooling conveyors. To accelerate the cooling, Welex sometimes adds banks of high-capacity air cooling fans or temperature-controlled immersion baths.
