Conforma Clad Inc. of New Albany, Ind., has launched its full-service extruder barrel inspection and refurbishment program, nationwide.
Dan Ludwig, director of sales, said Conforma Clad has always offered recladding and refurbishiing of barrels and liners that contain its tungsten carbide wear protection. But customers said they wanted a one-stop shop to refurbish any make and model of co-rotating, segmented twin-screw extruder barrels
The service extends the life of worn extruder barrels. Inspection services, including cleaning and pressure and flow testing, are performed at no charge. After completing the inspection, Conforma Clad recommends any repairs required to restore the barrel to a like-new condition.
The company's barrel liners consist of tungsten carbide material that is bonded to a 4140 steel substrate. The combination provides added ductility, virtually eliminating failures associated with rigid liners such as weld separation of the collapse of sleeves, according to Conforma Clad.
