Injection mold maker Prestige Mold Inc. is buying a Hylectric 160 press from Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. of Bolton, Ontario.
Prestige plans to use the new machine for test runs in a technical applications room being constructed in its Rancho Cucamonga facility.
Prior to executing the purchase, Prestige had mold tests conducted at a Husky technical center in Costa Mesa, Calif. ``The Hylectric's high-performance characteristics maximized the output of our most complex molds,'' said Donna Koebel, Prestige Mold's chief executive officer.
Founded in 1982, Prestige makes hot-runner tooling, unwinding molds, multiple mold packages, high cavitations and other products, largely for medical, consumer packaging and electronics applications.
In May at Antec 2003, the Society of Plastics Engineers Mold Making and Mold Design Division designated Prestige as its 2003 Mold Designer of the Year. Prestige matched the $500 SPE prize and donated a total of $1,000 to the machine trades program at San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino, Calif.
