Distribution and product development company TricorBraun has purchased a Colorado-based distributor, extending its geographic reach in North America.
The St. Louis-based packaging supplier purchased Packaging West Inc. in Aurora, Colo.
Packaging West, a supplier of rigid packaging, has five locations and recorded sales of about $35 million in 2003, according to TricorBraun President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Strope.
TricorBraun will retain Packaging West's locations in Denver and Albuquerque, and integrate the other three facilities with TricorBraun operations near Packaging West sites in Seattle, Los Angeles and Kansas City, Mo., Strope said Jan. 8.
The acquisition also will give Packaging West customers access to TricorBraun's design development center in Chicago, Strope said. The smaller distributor did not have a separate development facility, he said.
``The [purchase] ... brings both new geographic locations and new customers to us,'' he said.
About 35 Packaging West employees are affected by the purchase.
Packaging West immediately will become part of TricorBraun. The St. Louis company claims to be the largest packaging distributor in the United States and has 25 locations.
