Grinder-maker Vecoplan LLC is targeting the film and synthetic-fiber reprocessing sectors with its new single-shaft rotary grinders.
Vecoplan of Archdale, N.C., has introduced two new models of its ReTech series of grinders, the RG52/150K FF and RG62/150K FF. They have Vecoplan's SureCut cutting system, designed to shred shrink and flexible film and other bulky items.
Len Beusse, Vecoplan's chief operating officer, said the company redesigned the rotor so the machine effectively shreds film. Normally, film tends to wrap around the cutting rotor. Vecoplan added rows of nip cutters on the rotor, to eliminate film wrapping.
A hydraulic ram feeds material to the rotor.
Other benefits include material with less thermal degradation, less machine stress and higher output.
The most popular sizes have a hopper opening of 52 inches by 58 inches, or 63 inches by 80 inches. The smaller machine has a throughout of 1,000-4,000 pounds an hour; the larger machine can pump out up to 6,000 pounds an hour.
Beusse discussed the new film grinders during a visit to Plastics News offices in Akron. Vecoplan has sold more than 30 of the systems since they were introduced last year at NPE, he said.
Also new from Vecoplan is a horizontal profile shredder and granulator called the VH series, designed to reclaim long extrusion waste such as profiles, pipe and siding.
Beusse said conventional vertical-feed equipment required labor to pre-reduce the waste so it could be put in the hopper. The VH comes with a long horizontal in-feed conveyor, available in six model widths up to 50 inches and drives up to 150 horsepower. The scrap is conveyed horizontally into a series of top and bottom feed rollers, which in turn feed the cutting rotor only as much as it can process.
VH machines are offered with two rotor designs - a shredder rotor when a rough particle consistency is acceptable, and a granulator rotor when a smaller, consistent granulate is required. The granulator rotor comes in two- and four-knife designs.
Both the VH and the FF grinders mark the Vecoplan single-shaft rotary grinder for specialty applications.
Vecoplan said the single-shaft rotary grinder does grinding, shredding and granulating in a single machine, instead of requiring two separate machines to reduce the material.
