- The Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. this month is staging its annual Structural Plastics Conference with a fresh twist. Collocating with the three-day Plastics Encounter Southeast trade show in Charlotte allows the SPI organizers to showcase their new-product design competition in the midst of an exhibition and for an extended period.
Mega Plastics Week in Charlotte, which will run from March 20-25, starts with the Industrial Designers Society of America's Southern District conference. Due to the expected presence of nearly 300 designers, the Structural Plastics Division has tailored its March 21-23 conference program to appeal to that crowd, offering sessions on plastics aesthetics and decorating, cross-disciplinary communication, emerging materials and processes, tooling trends and globalization.
Plastics News, meanwhile, is organizing one-day design and business-management conferences concurrent with its Plastics Encounter show. Its March 23 Design Day conference includes Chinese, German and South Korean speakers to offer global perspectives, while the March 24 Management Day will assess ways to boost return on investment in training, applying automation and developing new products, and also debate how best to manage Asian outsourcing.
Moldmaking Technology is offering a multitrack technical conference March 24 and a mold maintenance and repair workshop the following day. Paulson Training Programs Inc. and Compuplast International Inc. also are staging various process and die-design simulation seminars for upper- and midlevel technical managers and operators those same days.
