N-K Manufacturing Technologies Inc. is adding injection molding presses and employees to keep up with new business.
The Grand Rapids-based firm has purchased 12 new presses from Demag Plastics Group, ranging in size from 30-500 tons, bringing its fleet up to 34 presses, said Vice President Armen Kassouni in a March 3 telephone interview.
Eight of the presses already are in place, with the rest set to arrive soon. The company is not disclosing its expansion costs.
N-K also has added 50 jobs to its existing 100 employees.
The molder saved money by reconfiguring its existing manufacturing space to make room for the new presses in its existing facility while also improving the overall layout, Kassouni said.
``It's our hope that we'll have an easier flow of material all the way through, from the input to the output,'' he said.
N-K has received new contracts for a variety of automotive components, he said. The new equipment also increases the firm's capabilities for in-mold decorating, laser etching and pad printing for auto interior parts.
``Our customers continue to look for increasingly complex interior components,'' he said.
