Buyers picked up 41 used Milacron injection molding machines and other equipment during a March 10 auction at the closed Hattiesburg plant of Sunbeam Products Inc.
More than 300 people participated both on-site and over the Internet, according to James Gardner, senior vice president of auction services for DoveBid Inc., which conducted the auction.
The 750,000-square-foot plant had been molding parts for small appliances. Sunbeam closed the factory last year.
Buyers snatched up a total of 1,000 lots, including granulators, dryers, blenders, temperature controllers and robots. Sunbeam started the greenfield plant in the mid-1990s, touting it as a showcase plastics facility.
Sale prices held up on the injection presses, which had clamping forces from 85-850 tons.
``We probably saw 25-30 percent increases over last year on a typical machine, due to the strength of the economy. There are more buyers out there,'' Gardner said.
