Adventure Plastics Inc. is expanding its pulverizing business as it relocates into a larger facility in Ackley.
The company recently bought a 235,000-square-foot building and will use nearly half of it as its new production plant. It also bought a second pulverizer, a Powder King model, that can process more than 2,000 pounds per hour. Vice President Stan Siems said the company will move other machinery into the plant as it completes renovations.
Siems said his company needs the second pulverizer because of growth in that business. One of the firm's biggest new contracts is to pulverize high-molecular-weight high density polyethylene gas tanks with an ethylene/vinyl alcohol layer. The pulverized material is easier to mold than regrind, he said.
Adventure's molding business relies almost exclusively on recycled HDPE and other resins. It has two 50-pound blow molding machines that make agricultural tubs and 13 injection presses with clamping forces up to 500 tons to mold flower pots, construction shims and a range of custom products. Siems said his company also will install a new wash line.
The building has a separate, 125,000-square-foot warehouse that Adventure plans to lease out.
